Biodynamic Therapy

Biodynamic Therapy began as a sketch in my notebook. It was an attempt to make sense of how people grow, heal and reconnect to themselves. As a walk and talk therapist, I wanted a model that breathed and one that honoured the changing seasons, rather than rushing toward outcomes. Like nature, it invites courage, strength, change and time. It teaches that every step is a step, and every tree was once a seed.

In my practice, I use the language of the body and the land with nature metaphors, creative tools and somatic awareness, in order to help clients notice balance, compost what no longer serves them and trust that regeneration happens quietly, beneath the surface.

This poem grew from that vision and was published in the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society magazine.

The Ecology of Self

It begins beneath the soil’s deep bed,
where quiet roots remember what’s been said.
Old voices rumble through ancient ground,
ancestry and love still found.
The places we come from softly show
the shape of all we’ve come to know.

Above, the trunk stands firm and clear,
a patient spine that holds us here.
In rings of time, identity grows,
layer on layer, the story shows.
Each mark a memory, each scar a line,
each one earned through weather and time.

Around us life stirs, hidden and bright,
protectors watching through the night.
Exiles resting, still, unseen,
yet part of all that breathes between.
Nothing is wasted, decay still feeds,
even the fallen plant new seeds.

The branches reach, they twist, they bend,
they learn the light, they break, they mend.
Roles and hopes the seasons send,
selves that stretch and re-extend.
Some hold fruit, some fracture free,
yet all belong to the same tree.

And above it all, connection flows,
the sky receives, the pollen blows.
Between us hums a quiet exchange,
interconnected, wide in range.
The weather shimmers, as we adjust,
from rain to sun, and doubt to trust.

This is how I see the way,
not lost in dark, but finding day.
A living system, bold, organic,
messy, tender, biodynamic.
Composting pain, transforming night,
toward balance, life,
and hopeful light.
